The author of this manuscript, Richard Corney, was the rector of Harrington, a country church in England. He dictated the work to an unknown person and died soon after. The preface, added by the copiest, explains that the author had long been asked to impart his knowledge on beekeeping, and dedicates the manuscript to Sir Thomas Isham.
